Chester Leadworks development
We are pleased to report that councillors on CWaC Planning Committee shared the views expressed by this Society, the Civic Trust and local residents, and that in the face of their criticisms the applications to demolish large parts of the Leadworks and redevelop the site were withdrawn. We hope that new proposals will be brought forward that are worthy of this sensitively positioned site and of the iconic Shot Tower that means so much to many Cestrians.
Multi-storey car park at the west end of Chester railway station
We are pleased to report that the CWaC Strategic Planning Committee rejected this application. Nevertheless, the need for more parking near the station remains, and we hope that Network Rail will return with new proposals that meet this need but are sensitive to the adjoining station buildings and to the general location at an important ‘gateway’ to the city centre.
Health Centre and Student Accommodation, George Street/Delamere Street
We are disappointed to report that, despite the criticisms voiced by the Society, English Heritage, the Chester Civic Trust and many others, CWaC Strategic Planning Committee approved this building.
Modifications to St Werburgh Street, Chester, and the creation of a ‘Cathedral Square’
